Part 8 - Preliminary Excercise.

My preliminary task wasn't my greatest of finished pieces but it was quite successful in terms of the camera shots and edits we used. this wasn't my first time in using equipment, like cameras, macs and the programes that are featured on them. So using equipment wasn't one of our problems, i liked our editing and shots that we used, although our final piece didn't turn out quite like we'd hoped. this was because our planning and research was so much more detailed and we had an idea in our head of how it would look, so when it turned out not so great we were quite disappointed. Our final film didn't look very creative or thought through, like we had rushed it and had no planning, although this could of been due to some our film being deleted, meaning that we had to film again which made everything harder, we were on a tighter time and we had to make everything look and sound the same.
Due to not doing so well in the priliminary task, it made me want to do better in my British Social Realist opening sequence as i knew i could do better, which i think i did, in terms of, not just planning but our final piece as well.
Least successful in this task, in my opinion was, our use of timings as we left things until the last second and had to re film a lot due to loss of footage, although this was not our fault. Our sound on the footage, when watching it over was very blurred and not clear, this was because of the wind blowing whilst we was filming, this could not be helped though, but it was a problem. Also using a young child in our film, turned out for the worse as it caused more problems than it helped. Due to the child being little they didn't understand and could not actually act so that made things more difficult and time consuming.
To impove the outcome of my British Social Realist opening sequence, we did not involve a child and had people that were involved in the making of the opening sequence acting so that there was no trouble with people not being able to do it. Also this time round, sound was not a problem as when we filmed outside it was quite nice weather, no wind and it was not very conversational so that the wind would not block out any important spoken words.
Also in this task, i think we had more control over what we could do, in terms of shots, locations, basically anything, apart from the themes and conventions. Having more space, i think, allowed us to do more and achieve a better, finished film.

Part 1 - Brief

What brief are you working to?
Our brief was to create a British social realist opening sequence, as a new upcoming director for Film4, to be aimed at an audience ranging from the age 16 - 24. The opening sequence was to be 2 minutes long and will follow the use conventions of a British social realist film. An initial idea we had was to show a boy being beaten up, which resulted in him having slight memory loss and the the film would be him, day by day, getting closer to his attacker and seeking revenge. this we thought was a good idea, but to clean and cut and we wanted to make it a bit more edgy and different, as it was following conventions of Film4 films.

Explain how it explores the themes of British Social Realism                                                              We thought our original idea was a very typical idea, one change we made was that the main character would be a girl, adding to British social realism and following the sort of path that fish tank went down. We also changed the girl to be a basket player and after being beat up she has to stay in a wheelchair, this would add aspiration, one of the themes of British social realism, to our film. after these changes are film went as followed; a girl playing basketball in the park, the next thing she knows shes woke up in a hospital and her best friend is standing by, her friend explains the story and we see flashbacks as she narrates what happened. the doctor tells our main character that she will be paralyzed from the waste down and so our opening sequence ends on a bit of a cliff hanger, where the audience are left with what she does next.

Explain the title and what happens in your opening sequence making reference to the treatment.
Our title 'Wheel Power' we finally decided on, after many different titles. We decided on this because we would of liked to see that our main character, after her incident, still went on to do well and played basketball in a wheelchair, still going for the aspiration theme, so ' Wheel Power ' seemed best suited, as it connotes to the audience without seeing the whole film that she finds the power to get up and get on with her life and doesn't let her incident stop her.
Our two minute opening sequence explores the British social realism themes in a way where, it appeals to a small, niche audience as of the gritty and upfront nature. It shows a teenagers life, through a view that does not have rose tinted glasses and shows the true down falls of life, and how hard it can be. It also is very very British, in where, only Britain will understand it and want to watch it, it will not be a film that goes global and is sold out everywhere, not even in cinemas, as it is not all pretty and happy endings, which the mainstream audience will enjoy. This will see that our film is recognised as a British Social Realist film.

Pre Production - Feedback on Animatics

We got feedback on our anamatic video, feedback we got in terms of strengths was that the use of violence, resulting to disability is a great image to the British social realism. They also said that the ending, was not positive which is an excellent connection to British Social Realism.

The weaknesses that we received was that the pictures need to be more detailed, i disagree with what was stated saying that the picture wasn't detailed enough the pictures were fine and it had enough detail to understand what was going on. They also said that we need to add graphics eg. that we need to add editor and director.
We also got feedback saying that the story was "shown very clearly and they understood what was going . They also knew that it relates to British Social Realism due to the violence shown.

They also I liked the idea of a flash back because they got more of an idea what is going on.
Weakness they said was that the music doesn't relate to what is happening and that it should be more dark and gritty then what it is. I disagree that the music doesn't relate to the production because the music matches how the mood is at the start and when Ellie gets beaten up the music changes into a more violent sound.

Pre Production - Analysis feedback for treatment

We got are feedback on our our treatment, the first thing we got feedback on was our Audience section, the thought that that me addressing London was too a narrow audience. They also said that we needed to state other pieces of media our audience would enjoy, and build more a profile for themTry to build more of a profile of them.

We got feedback on our Narrative and they said that it was clear yet the summary of the story was not well written i will have to back to this and check my grammar. They also said that we needed to include the name of our main character. They also said that are idea is orignal and it is more uplifting than a previous british social realism films. They also said that we needed more detail in the typography

We got feedback on our title, they said that they like the title but they thought that the theme of aspiration was not well explained, I like the title although your explanation about aspiration is not well explained. They also said that the title might put the audience of because it might convey that the film is miserable.

We aslso got feedback saying that we needed to give more explanation on the main character, by stating her name age and her background. We  got feedback on the conventions saying it lacked detail. They said that Editing was clearly explained. They said that the instition was rushed and it needed more detail and state the instistuation.

Pre Production - Case Study

British Social Realism – Institution, Audience and

Pre Production - Treatment

Treatment

Representations

The film is based around a young white girl as we folow her life after an accident that leave her less abel than she was before. She is our protagonist in the film, along with her best friend who we are also introduced to in the opening sequence. The antagonist of the film is the ring elader of a bunch of girls who leaves our main character in a heart beraking position, as she and her friends jump the main character after school one day because of jealousy. This is going against the stereotypical view of young white girls as they are not seen to be violent and abusive, that is more of a boy stereotype.
Conventions
Sticking to the conventions of a British Social Realist film, my film will be based on a you, white female, from a working class background. It wills how all the hardships of working class life, and not the ' rose tinted glasses' effect that you would see in a Hollywood film, as Bristish Social REalist films aim to show the true realities of life and not a big fairytale. A hybrid element of my British social realism genre would be the gangster violence theme but with a twist as it would be girl gangs instead of typical boy gangs.

Style and Iconography
The camera work will be very natural and doncumentory like, like in Fish Tank. Also i will not use lots of fancy effects as that is not the style of a British Social Realist film, my only possibly editing effect will be fading to and form black, this will help in the verisimilitude of my film. Ensuring that the audience feel part of the film and dont just see it as a film they are watching in the cinema as i want my audience to be able to relate to the characters and ther lifestyle.

Institution
Due to my institution being a small, independant, british company my budget to spend on the film will only be little. I wont have lots of money to spend on huge marketing techniques and create lots of pretty posters, my main marketing strategiy will be Viral Marketing and Word Of Mouth.
Alos my film will probably not be released in ibg, mainstream cinemas and will mostly stick to home exhibition, ie DVD's and website veiwings.

Production Log Week 4

This week we focused on the planning of our film and our audience. We decided we would aim it at an age group between 15 and 50 because this audience will be able to relate the themes and the struggle that the characters will go through. It will be mainly aimed at young girls as the main character of the film is a young girl and so the audience can relate to her and her lifestyle. Our target audience will be for those people that are in a working class or under class background as they will understand the problems that my characters go through, the area most relatable to would be London, Essex as that is most common for working and under class, and they will also be able to relate and maybe recognise the use of locations and maybe landmarks in the film.
Also due to the lack of funding for a British social realist film, more than one company would have to be involved in the making, distribution and exhibition of my film. This would increase the budget i had for my film but explains why these films do not do as well as they are mainly made by independent film companies. Also, i learnt that using rel life locations and the use of little editing effects will create more audience involvement and make it easier for the audience to believe the story and put them selves in it, in comparison to Hollywood films that would have a lot of unrealistic uses, which makes them big and fancy and less social realist.
All that i have learnt this week will help in the making of my film.

Pre Production - Draft Treatment

Target Audience

Target Audience :
-British
-Females
-Age 16-50
-Disabled people
-Working Class
-Chadwell Heath residents

Are target audience, will revolve around British audience. Mainly aged between 16 - 50 because the age group can relate to the problems conveyed in the film, and mainly female due to a female being the main character and girls could relate to her we can tell this after looking at the exit polls for Fish Tank which revolves around a female, most of the people they surveyed were females. This could also appeal to audience that have a disability and the struggle to over come the prejudice within society. Our target audience could also be from the area eg. London, due to the audience relating back to the landmarks and locations in the film. Are target audience are also people that watch social realistic films due to them liking the genre. Are target audience can also evolve around working class people due to our production based around working class life, so the audience can relate to it.

Narrative
Are film is about a struggle to regain her life back after being very sporty and having her future ahead of her, due to her having her back broken by jealous thugs, the film is how she try’s to fit in with society and face the problems and prejudice that comes with being disabled.
The start of our opening sequence, is the main character with her friends coming out of school. We then see her playing football, then it cuts back to present day of her being in a bed sit and a wheelchair next to her, it then cuts back to her playing football and we see a group of girls approach her, we then cut to credits and in the background noise we hear screaming. The rest of the opening scene we see her getting dressed, (starting her normal day) and the credits role.
The conventions that we will be based around will be aspiration were the main character wants to achieve something in her life despite having a disability.

Technology
We will use technology to make are production realistic by filming in hd, we do this by using a hd video recorder, this will the production have more clarity and make for a more enjoyable film. We will also use a tripod so when we film we can get suitable heights so the audience can relate to the characters views.
We will also use a editing applications to edit the production of our film, we will also be using the music application so we can make are own music so we can avoid copyright.

Title
The name of our production is still being decided but i am thinking about having “Struggle” has the title of the film. This connotes the theme of the film due to the main character having to struggle with her disability.
The title relates the the conventions of a British social realism film, because struggle connotes the convention of aspiration. This title will appeal to the audience due to them being enticed because they will wont to know what the struggle is about and how the main character will over come the problems they face.

Representations
The main character of our film is a young white girl, we think this would be a good main character like in fish tank, I think this works well as it is quite unusual to be following a young girl in her life.  She will be who the film is mostly focused on and will also be the protagonist of our storyline. We are also introduced to our main characters best friend as they come out of school together during the first few minutes of the film, she is also a good character. Also during the opening sequence the audience will have a quick meeting with the antagonist of the film when she has the fight with our main character, which sets up our story. This character is also white and female. At the beginning of my film there are no obvious Propp character types but after the accident that occurs our main character, could be seen as pitiable as pathetic and is also used for atmosphere. The characters in my film may challenge the typical stereotype of a young, white girl as being calm, quite a good girl because in my film they have attitude and the protagonist beats up my antagonist, putting her in hospital, defeating the good girl stereotype.

Conventions
My film will slightly conform to the British social realism genre. Firstly, by having a young white female as my main character, like in fish tank, goes against the grain as it is quite unusual. Also the situation, young, white girls fighting and putting people in hospital is conforming to the British social realism genre as it shows the real life of working class, instead of looking at them through ‘rose tinted glasses’. In the opening scene we see two of the protagonists leaving a school, which e assume them to be a part of as there are wearing the uniform, this shows them to be working class and be at a public school, which is typical of a British social realism to focus on working and under class rather than middle class. A hybrid element of my British social realism genre would be the gangster violence theme but with a twist as it would be girl gangs instead of typical boy gangs.

Style and Iconography
My camera work will create an effect on the audience as i aim to do it as a documentary, following my main characters life and the struggles she goes through to try and achieve her dream after being knocked back, and more importantly finding her attacker. They used this technique in fish tank, following around Mia, which I think worked really well and was quite affective in the feeling it gave the audience towards her. Due to my film be a British social realism film, i will use little editing as this is one of the conventions. Editing I use may only be little like fading in and out of black and also the use of graphics ie, titles and typography. This will effect the audience as they will feel more involved in the film as there is no make believe editing that attracts away from the story and makes you feel like you are watching the film and not a part of it. The costumes in my film will be very simple and nothing fancy, this is to add emphasis on the genre of the film and the people and area that it is filmed in. British social realist films focus on the working class so I will sue simple costumes and props, so that it does not look like a Hollywood film with big fancy costumes and props. In terms of sound and music, the audience will only here diagetic sound and music, and also possibly a theme tune, but that will be all. This will add to the emphasis on it being real life and so that the audience can connect to the characters in the film without being distracted.

Institution
The production company, being a British, independent film company, limits my film making. It will affect the amount of money i can spend on my film, the cast of the film and also my filming locations. This is because the company itself does not have a lot money to give me to fund my film. This could affect the distribution of my film as i will not have a lot of money to be sending my film around to a lot of cinemas as i do not want to risk loosing money by it not being viewed due to its content, as it only appeals to a niche audience. Therefore it will be best to just distribute it for home exhibition, ie dvd’s and internet. Also i will not have the funds to advertise my film properly and create as much audience awareness as i need for my film to do well in a cinema, meaning that it will be more successful in home exhibition. My film will most likely have home exhibition. It will be home release and viewed on DVD, or can also be viewed using New Media Technology on a laptop, iPod or phone using the internet or downloading it from a website. It will not be seen in a cinema as cinemas are for a main stream audience and British social realism films appeal to a niche audience because of the content and the themes and issues they deal with within their films.

Production Log; Week Three

Focusing on opening sequences, credits, titles and sound i have realised how important and opening sequence is. An audience can tell alot about a film from the first two minutes and can determine there opinion on the film and if they want to continue to watch it. They usualy only show bits of the film jsut to give the audience a back ground to the film, maybe showing a few main characters and the location of the film, although it could be an animated sequence or one with pictures or colours underneath the credits and title.
The opening credits can consist of either the entire crew that helped in the making of the film, or just a selected few that the film crew think will be more important to the audience, mainly actors, directors and producers. In terms of actors and characters, some films have showed the charcater with there name or actord name just to show the audience abit about them so already they can make up thier mind who they like, like in Snatch. Also the use of known actors, directors and producers helps in the appeal of a film as the audience will know if there past films are good or bad and can try to work out how the film will be, for example, Jason Statham is usualy seen as being in action films and mostly playing a lone part with no partner. Films tend not to list the whole crew in an opening sequence as the audience will get bored as it tends to drag on abit, with information the audience feel they do not need.

The music or diagetic sound has a huge affect on the audience as they can determine the mood and atmoshpere of a film through this. the music usualy tends to be jsut the music and no spoken words as this takes away from the mood and pays more attention to the song.

The typography used in an opening sequence is quite important also as it will appeal more to an audience if it is attractive and more important goes with the theme of the film. If it stands out people are more likley to remember and then can create a bigger audience through word of mouth.

This research will help in my own making of an opening sequence, i know what will be best to use to create most audience awareness and keep them interested and wnating to watch right from the beginning of the film. I prefer a film that shows a bit of background to the story whilst playing music that goes well with the mood, helping the audience to involve them selves and feel apart of the film, being able to relate and feel for the characters. In terms of credits, i do not want to bore my audience so will keep to a minimum of names. I want my film to be memorable and spoken about so i am going to choose a theme and stick to it, in terms of typography so that anything that had that typography in the future, maybe if i wanted to be involved in cross media convergence or synergy they would recognise the typograhpy and know it is related to my film.

Pre Production - Analysing Sound

I analysed Bullet Boy up to the first 2 minutes.

Sunday, 6 February 2011

Production Log; Week Two.

British Social Realist films the very ' kitchen sink ' view of the world in social realist films is potryed in thier conventions and codes and helps to send across there message and helps in thier audience appeal. Unlike Hollywood films, which appeal to a main stream audince, these films appeal to a niche audience. The themes in social realist are very ' grey coloured ' and focus on the less appealing side to life and more of the troubles and problems people go through. Themes include things like sex, domestic violence, crime and many more which do not show the cheery side to life. The films focus on a number of themes during, instead of focusing on one main theme as this helps to potry the life of working and under class people and the difference between the two. This appeals to thier audience and they can relate more to these themes as these are everyday things that will occur in thier life and do not have the hollywood film view of life, where things are always resolved and have a happy ending. The mis - en - scene also shows a very murky, dull view of life, often using council estates or small houses, for example in fish Tank, showing the estae that Mia lives on which is not very clean or nice to look at and just looks like a basic estate that has not been bothered with. Thier niche audience can relate to this as they do not live in big, posh houses. they have to live with what they are given and only get what they can afford, which, in most cases, is very little. Dialogue is a key convention in a british social realist as thier niche audience can relate to their accents, slang and ways of speaking. In Kidulthood, for example, the slang that they use will relate to a niche audience more than a mainstream one as they will understand the dialogue and can then feel and relate highly to the characters and the film.

Looking at opening sequences this week, i can tell the difference between Hollywood and Social Realist films. Hollywood tend to have more fancy typography and visual effects where an social realist film will show a more realistis opening, as an important part of thier films is verisimilitude and showing true real life in the eyes of working or under class people. Social realist films will also tend to use more british music in the opening sequence and not a very popular, well known song.

The research into conventions of social realism films and there opening sequences has impacted on my idea for my own opening sequence of a british social realism production. I know that in my opening sequence, any fancy editing techniques will not help in the verisimilitude of my film. Also, during my opening sequence i should not give to much of the film away and stick to bare minimum of detail so that my audience are intrigued and want to watch the film. During my opening sequence i should not use diagetic sound, only non diagetic as this will add to the atmosphere in the film, and this is usualy a sound track made specificaly for the film.

Themes of British Social Realism.

Growing Up and Aspirations
To dow ith over coming what you had to deal with earlier on in your life. Maybe espcaping what you gre up with and making your life better. Making more of yourself, wanting and getting better than what you had or are used to.
Billy Elliot; As Billy grows up he realisess that boxing, which his dad wnts him to take part in, is not in his best interests, it is not what he wants to do so he starts to particiapte in ballet classes secretly as he knows his dad will be dissapointed.
The Firm; grwing up around people who are more popular and bigger than himself, the main character aspires to be one of them or like them. he wants to be known and noticed in the way that they are so changes his ways to become one of them

Race, Ethinicity and Cultural Tensions
This could occur within society or even within the family, like in east is east where George has different views tha the rest of his family. Could also be a clash between cultures.

Snatch; Different races and ethnic backgrounds all come togehter in this film, but all working in thier different ways and playing different parts.
Harry Brown; this works in the opposti to societys views of the elderly. Harry brown, an old man goes after the youngsters who killed his best friend, he breaks the stereotype that people percieve old men to be like and comes out on top.

Social Class
British social realism looks at the difference between under class and wokring class and all though they are both seen as the worse type of class, there is a big difference.

Full Monty; this shows a run down area and how this affects the people in it, they become unemplyed but they make the best out of a bad situation by makingthemselves into a group and earning money out of it.

Violence ( often with gangs)
Although it is usualy shown in gangs this can also be in the home, child abuse or domestic violence can occur in british social realism films. They also include violent language and threatening scences.

Bullet Boy; this is to do with gang violence. The main character comes out of prison and wants to get out of all the stuff that first got him in thier, this links in to aspirations aswell. He also brings his little brother into the bad stuff that he used to do.
Shifty; the violence in here is to dow ith gangs, but not big groups of them. The violence is mainly because of drugs and they tend to be running from police quite alot.

Sexuality
This is to do with hiding your sexuality as it is not accepted, like in my beautiful laundrette, as they cannot come out as gay as they would be shamed upon. It also includes people and younger people discovering sex and having thier first experiences with it. Also alot of illegal sexual things happen, like peodophilia, rape and under age sex, ahowing the realistic view of it. It can also show a person who lacks in sex life.

Gender Roles and Relationships
British social realism films show true realtionships, not through rose tinted glasses. They show the love and hate, they show broken relationships and the betrayel that can come with them. Absence and replacement is a big thing in these films, and it also looks at not just male and female relationships but any other type of relationship also.
Nil by Mouth; shows the good and the bad of thier relationship. We see the domestic violence that can go on behind closed doors. It also shows the decietful, cheating and uncaring view of the man in the relaitonship.

Addiction
this can with Drugs, Alcohol, Smoking. It can also be with violence or the constant need of love or affection that has been missed like Mia in Fish Tank. The party addiction, like what we see in 24 hour party people can also be shown in bristish social realism.

British Politics
This shows the poeple in these films to be against the politics thata re going on around them as they do not seem to benefit them selves or the area they live in and how it impacts on different people and people of different class. This can be seen in Four Lions.

Immigration
This links in to aspiration as they move here to get away from trouble in thier own countries and to get a good job and look after there family. British social realism shows them in a harsh light and the hardship that they face in england. they face many difficulties and the racism they get does not help and gives them no motivation.

Production Log; Week One.

This week we looked at previous work from the year above who had a simliar brief to us, but had to make a film which was of the genre thriller. From the two candidates we looked at you can certainley see the difference in effort, content, knowledge and research, determining thier grades. Looking at the mark scheme and grade boundaries you can see there is very little in marks that gives you your grade. These are only small differences like, the use of minimal research and basic research that takes you from a level two to a level three in your planning and research. a level 3 to a level 4, with just the difference of proficent creativity and excellent creativity means that the extra little bits are key.

Candidate one who got the lower grade out of the two and in his research and planning, the videos he has produced he does not look top sure. To me it seems as if he doesnt actually know what he is talking about, but is jsut reading off a piece of paper what he has wrote; this does not show a good understanding and he also only uses basic research into his film and audience.
Week 3

Candidate two, however is very clear and confident in his videos. He clearly states what he is going to and overcomes the problems that he faces. He seems to be very sure of what he is doing and also very in control of everything. He uses a good vocabulary and is very enthusiastic in his work. This gives a positive view of him and his grade will go up as he seems to of put all his effort in to it.
http://jbchandler1.blogspot.com/search?updated-max=2010-03-25T03%3A17%3A00-07%3A00&max-results=7

In their production and construction Candidate ones film was good in terms of sticking to the genre it did keep you in suspense and left you wanting to see more but there where little technical faults that made it no excellent, like when the music in his sequence interferes with the diagetic sound in the film and makes it hard to hear and confusing. This will mean he drops a grade due to silly and easliy corrected mistakes.

Candidate Twos production and construction. Firstly looks very much how a film would start, with its production company appearing first and then going into the film. The film itself shows very good use of camera shots and editng. Also showing a very good and well thought through storyline. He uses the building of tetion very, very well and creates alot of suspense for the audience, carrying out a thrillers true job.

The evaluation stage, in Candidate ones case, once again he just shows a basic understanding of what he has done and not very in depth.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z3QVsYS8Nvw&feature=player_embedded

Candidate twos evaluation is alot more detailed and he also includes improvments that could of been made showing he has a better un dertsandoing of what he has doen as he is able to asses it. This would probably get a level 4 as it is an excellent understanding of the issues.

http://jbchandler1.blogspot.com/

This gives me an idea of the type of commitment and hard work i have to put into my work to get a high grade. The use of excelent terminolgy, research, planning and creativity is what will get me my high grade. If i follow more in the footsteps of candidate two, rather than candidate one i should be succesful in my work. In terms of my actual production i must stick to my brief and make sure evey little detail is planned and looked at porperly and thuroughly checked over before i can say i am finished.

I will avoid distractions that will limit me to the amount of time and effort i put into my work and will make sure i do not jsut the basic research, planning and creativity into my work.

Evaluation of Past Candidates Work.

Candidate One.

Planning and Research
Candidate ones planning and research was quite good, he used correct and good use of terminology. He also outlined his project and lessons well,  although his weaknesses were that he was quiet and not very confident so was a little unclear. He also  mumbles and his tone is quite boring. his videos also have no variation and are constantly the same apart from content.

Construction
Strengths in this candidates work is the music used in this candidates exercise is very dramatic and helps to build the tension of the theme, which works well as the genre of the film is thriller. It sticks well to its genre, keeping the audience in suspense throughout the 2 minutes. It isn't bloody or glory, so is not to squirmy for the audience.
The weaknesses of his work is the starting titles are not very clear and i had to look hard to be able to read them. they also took up a lot of the time, wasting time he could of used in his actual filming work. The non diagetic sound, which is the music over the film also over powers the diagetic sounds that are in the film, making the films sound unclear and hard to hear.

Evaluation
The strengths of his evaluation is that he shows a good understanding of what he has done, his strenths and weaknesses and also what he could improve. His evaluation is very clear, easy to understand and clearly presented. He also uses a variety of different media in his evaluation, helping in the presentation and strength of his evaluation.
the weaknesses are that he does not look very comfortable or confident in what he is saying, almost like he doesnt know it. his speech is also very quiet.

Here is a link to this candidates work, including his production logs and drafts of his film. http://amanveermediacw.blogspot.com/search?updated-max=2010-05-05T09%3A55%3A00-07%3A00&max-results=7

Candidate Two.

Planning and Research
Candidate two shows a clear and very detailed understanding of his task and what has to be done, his plan is outlined very clear. He seems to be very time consuming and in control of his task. He shows good research with not too much, but enough detail.
the weakness in this section is that in one of his videos, this candidate put text over the top of his video to show the topic, this is quite off putting and makes it hard to understand what he is saying.

Construction
The construction for candidate two is strong as it sticks to  the brief of a thriller and, again, builds tension for the audience and it does this very well with all of the camera shits and edits that he has put in. His storyline is clear and does not confuse the audience despite the constant flashbacks and change of scenery. The camera work and editing that this candidate has used has been used well as his film is clearly set out. He has also used a good use of location.
In terms of construction, i didn't really find any weaknesses' in the candidates work as it was very well planned and carried out.

Evaluation
In his evaluation candidate two is very thorough in his speeches, he is clearly spoken and also clearly laid out, so that the person watching can understand. His use of terminology is very good and he shows a good understanding of the task he was set and of the audience that he had to appeal to because of the genre he was working with. He shows good research.
Once again, like his construction i did not see any major weaknesses in his work.

This link shows candidate twos final film and his evaluations.
